I never heard of Comer, GA before, but as we were passing the town, we decided to stop at Watson Mill Bridge and let our 7yr old stretch her legs. Oh what a wonderful surprice! We spent 2.5 hrs wading in the river, playing with tadpoles, frogs, inch-worms and other critters. We explored the well kept hiking trails, and got a souvenir from the visitor center.
Watching my girl play so carefree in the river reminds me how there is not such a thing as boredom when you are outside, AND it made me feel so grateful to live in Georgia. Anywhere you look, there is a lush green space to be enjoyed.
Interesting facts: Watson Mill Bridge contains the longest covered bridge in the state, spanning 229 feet across the South Fork River. Built in 1885 by Washington (W.W.) King, son of freed slave and famous covered-bridge builder Horace King. At one time, Georgia had more than 200 covered bridges; today, less than 20 remain.
