Rogue Protocol by Martha WellsMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is what sci-fi action TV series are made of! Think of a ‘Mandalorian’-type series. Who’s bringing this to TV?!
We know by now that Murderbot wants to be left alone to be its best, introverted self, but… of course, it found itself another set of humans to save. Mind you, this happened en route to obtaining some info that would benefit the previous set of humans it had saved. But as it said, ‘I hate caring about stuff, but once you start, you just can’t stop.’
During ‘Rogue Protocol,’ life sucks Murderbot into being an independent, interplanetary, human-saving, much-too-caring, pretend Standard SecUnit. But once it finishes its mission, it has to get on its way to continue its self-discovery journey, which at this point includes a lot of humor and sarcasm = good entertainment.
Even though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the previous one, I am ready to continue with the action-packed story.
On to book #4: ‘Exit Strategy.’
Favorite quotes:
‘They were all annoying and deeply inadequate humans, but I didn’t want to kill them. Okay, maybe a little.’
‘Who knew that being a heartless killing machine would present so many moral dilemmas? (Yes, that was sarcasm.)’
‘(I hoped I could do this. I had been wondering a lot about my judgment lately.)’
‘Traumatized humans with unsecured weapons make me nervous.’
